Preparing For Spring Pests

Spring is around the corner, which means now is the perfect time to keep those unwanted pests away. An infestation can be very stressful, inconvenient, and time-consuming. There are ways to tackle this project on your own. Try these tips and tricks from Safety First Pest Control to help keep those pests away!

Remove standing water and fix leaks
Standing water can be the breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects. If you are not proactive, you can have a major issue of these insects around your home and they can ruin outside experiences. They also can serve as a watering hole for other larger pests.

Keep food where it belongs
Everyone has busy lives but tossing food in the garbage can be a disaster. Many pests and animals can sense food even through closed containers. When possible, throw away food at last possible moment to minimize the time spent in your outside container. This applies to both urban and rural environments.

Clean up your mess
Leaving plates of food or mess on the floor is just an invite to outside invaders. Crumbs are feasts for many small pests, like cockroaches. Make sure to try to maintain clean surfaces throughout your kitchen and dining areas. Contact your local pest control before applying bombs or surface deterrence before applying.

Seal the inside and treat the perimeter of your home
Homes have cracks and gaps. Using caulk to fill these holes are recommended. After sealing the inside, another good line of defense is to seal the perimeter of the house. An added benefit is that this will make your house more energy efficient.

Unreachable menaces
There are many pests that will create a habitat or breeding ground in unreachable parts of your home. Rodents, cockroaches, termites, silverfish, and even snakes can set up shop in places between your walls and floors, and even attics and basements. This can render them almost impossible to get rid of as well as leaving rotten carcasses when you try. Traps and poisons are usually best left to the professionals.

Invaders
Trash cans, cars, sheds and other outlying buildings including your home can be invaded by larger creatures. Larger mammals can create havoc in their search for food. Occasionally reptiles, sometimes dangerous, can come in contact with us where we live. In these extreme circumstances, call a professional service.
